From 21 to 27 September, the Flanders Architecture Institute is organising the second Festival of Architecture (F/a). Following a successful first edition in Antwerp, the F/a will be staged this year in Ghent. With the theme ‘Connect the city!’ we are putting architecture in the spotlight for a whole week through a wide range of activities. In collaboration with the Ghent City Architect and the Vooruit Arts Centre, we will be transforming F/a 2019 into a sociocultural festival in which you can see and feel the relevance of architecture.
Now more than ever before, Flanders needs additional residential, work and living space. Many cities are facing a chronic shortage of (green) space. Villages and rural towns often possess this space, but wrestle with poor infrastructure or a shortage of services in the immediate area. How do we connect the advantages of the city and the village without compromising on open space or spending even more time stuck in traffic jams?
Connect! This is the message that we wish to convey to everyone. Connect buildings, functions and people. Start with yourself or collaborate with others and work towards a healthier living environment, more attractive spaces and additional time.
